GRD BEARDED BROTHERS - BEARDS OF HOPE

A couple of months ago I (Alex Glaves) was sent an email regarding Beards of Hope and if we would support such a worthy organisation, with the cause being close to home I approached my husband (Daniel) and the men of Gosford asap and in a matter of hours 11 boys put their hands and volunteered their time, compassion and Beards.

Sean, Daniel, James, Nik, Shay, Reidy, Matt, Karl, James S, Bede and Brett!

Unfortunately, the statistics are real each day in Australia, 6 babies are stillborn, 2 babies die before their 1st birthday and a miscarriage occurs every 3.5 minutes, that's no spelling mistake every 3.5 minutes, a family is affected by this harsh reality. Tens of thousands of dads and their families are affected each year. Bears Of Hope provides support to families from the very beginning of their loss and beyond, through their extensive and much needed services.

So the above 11 men decided to put down the razor from June until September

to raise money and awareness for “Beards Of Hope“ a charity that supports pregnancy and Infant Loss, a charity that has affected many players, friends and family not only within our club but within our community.

Last August we organised a photo shoot with Sean's brother Will Anlezark from Euphoria Films for a bit of fun, which saw us featured in the Central Coast Express Advocate both online and paper form - https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/central-coast/gosford-rugby-club-players-grow-beards-for-bears-of-hope-charity/news-story/9e50d487422254f0258429363937d105

The rivalry was alive and club morale was going strong, We raised $1000.00 within days and over the months we kept raising out target higher and higher. It was in those moment's I honestly couldn't be prouder not only of my Husband but of the other 10 men participating. By the time our fundraiser/Trivia night had come around (Sept 1) we had raised just over $6000.00.

In the bid to raise some last minute funds and awareness we hosted a GRD Bearded Brothers Brave the Shave or Save Trivia night, which resulted in all 11 men shaving in one way or another.

We sold over 110 seat, we raffled off 4 amazing prizes, hosted games as well as playing Trivia through out the evening but the main event took place at around 8:30pm when we auctioned each Beard off with the highest bidder having the rights to shave or save the beard they bid on. Our highest Beard sold for $500.00 seeing Brendan Porter shaving Matt Glaves beard.

We raised a total of $1882.00 just with our Beard Auction.

We would also like to thank the following businesses for contributing to our cause in ways of donations.

especially The Urban Oven for feeding us delicious pizzas through out the evening, you both did a fantastic job and it was great having you on board.

Through out the evening including the Beard Auction we raised $3385.00 bringing us to $9736.00 as of 03/09/2018.

I honestly couldn't be prouder, this cause means so much to so many people and speaking on behalf of all 11 men we couldn't be more thankful of each and every single person that has donated their time, effort and money to this cause. We couldn't have done it without each and everyone of you and all donations big and small will make a difference to a grieving family. So thank you thank you thank you from the bottom of our hearts and thank you to Beards of Hope and all that you do for families in need, it has been a privileged to be apart of 2018 fundraiser and help contribute to the total of $159,028.38 raised.

I personally can't thank each of these boys enough. From Karl running the trivia after being at the ovals all day, The Martins, Sean and The Glaves turning up early and helping set up and doing last minute runs. Jimmy for stepping in and running the bar with Dan, Jess and Grant. Ells for organising the room for us. Brett, Nick, Shay for running the raffle table. Josh for taking photos and helping me organise this whole thing. Bede for helping where he can, San Underwood for auctioning our beards and everyone that stayed back and packed up when I had to go home early but most of all Daniel for supporting me supporting all of you. We have done a fantastic job so thank you.

We hope that next year we can rally the boys together again for another great cause...
