JUNIOR COACHES COMMENTS
Friday 10 August Under 17s
"This was the U17’s last week of the Competition before the finals. The boys needed to win and score at least 4 tries to get a bonus point to secure second place. Having said that, our first half was a little shaky and we struggled to play the structured play we are known for. At the break, the score was 19 all, with lots of work to do.
Half time provided an opportunity to remind the boys to get back to our style of play and of our team motto “For You, For Me!” This is all the motivation the boys needed to get the job done. The second half saw the boys score 4 tries to 1 and were dominate all over the park.
Gosford 45 – Avoca 26
Best on Park were Felix, Jamelle and Luke
The boys achieved the aim of the game, securing second place and play the Semi Final at Warnervale Friday night (17 August) kicking off at 7:35pm." - Steve Keiler

"A massive game for the Devils, they were scheduled to play both Avoca teams in a double header, on the day the Avoca squads merged and pooled their might to challenge our heroes.
The game was played 10v10 on a slightly wider field which opened up opportunities for both teams. The Sharks were mighty early on and their relentless effort at the breakdown troubled our little warriors. But the Red Devil resolve never waned and they stuck together and defended their line.
In a game that was close throughout it came down to a couple of late tries by the Devils and they snuck through 6-5. There were outstanding efforts all-round, none more so than Charli who scored 5 tries, her defence was terrific as well and with the great breakdown work and ball gathering of Ethan B and others it was a well deserved win by a great Gosford team.
Our opposition for the last game is undecided as yet with another team a bit worried about playing against the Wildcats so we may be thrown in against them instead, rather than Northlakes that we are meant to play. Either way the Little Devils will do the club proud.." - Tatts
"This weekend was against Avoca Gold. This was a tough game as Avoca was very strong at the ruck. Gosford, however, dominated the mauls again! This dominance lead to a number of great breaks through the defensive line." - Thomas
"Gosford 10 (Dylan Witcher 2 tries) Avoca 38.
The boys turned up on Saturday knowing a tough game was ahead of them against Avoca but were determined to keep their unbeaten home record this year alive. The boys started well and posted the first try of the match, which was a fantastic effort considering we have only scored one try in 3 matches against Avoca this season. The first half was tense and saw Avoca snatch the lead before half time through an intercept, with the half time score 12 – 5 to Avoca.
In the second half the boys showed glimpses of dominance with strong carries in the forwards by Sam Tracey and Isaia Baker and some big runs by Dylan Witcher, Anton Huntley and effective clean outs by Thomas McArdle and Josh Hawkins. Although the boys tried hard we were not good enough to stop Avoca taking their try scoring opportunities. The boys showed we can stick with Avoca for periods of time and really challenge them when we make our tackles and pressure the break down. We believe we can improve over the last few weeks of the season with hard work.
We take on Terrigal in the final round this weekend and can secure second place with a win. The boys have showed massive improvement this season and really deserve the opportunity to play for a place in the major semi final.
See you all at training on Thursday." - Mal Spinks
